The stages of your Kung Fu journey
Training Kung Fu to become a Distinguished Martial Artist and Person is a lifelong journey.
At Kung Fu Life, we have created a curriculum, consisting of four stages, to guide our members on their Kung Fu and self-actualisation learning path.
Kung Fu Life Curriculum
The stages of the training path are divided into these four levels:
Level 1: Ren (人)
Level 2: Da (大)
Level 3: Tian(天)
Level 4: Fu(夫)
The Chinese character for each level as shown above, is a component that makes up the Chinese character 夫 (pronounced 'Fu'), the second word in Kung Fu 功夫.
The characters that compose Fu, each have their own meaning. By looking at the details within the word Fu, a development path can become apparent, offering guidance on the journey to become a distinguished person and martial artist.
The first character Ren 人 stands for ‘Person or Human’ and builds the foundation of our martial art learning path. Whether in martial arts or in everyday life, it all begins and ends with ourselves, that is where the journey starts.
The second character Da 大 symbolises ‘Growth and Expansion’ and leads into the second part of the learning process.
The third character Tian 天 means sky. Symbolising ‘Possibility and Potential’ and our ability to ‘reach for the sky’. Striving towards our full potential with all our being, energy and time invested in the process.
The fourth character is Fu 夫 representing the final stage of our curriculum. Here, the character ‘Fu’ reaches its full meaning, suggesting that with the required time and energy invested, it is possible to work through and even overcome our self-set limitations, reaching beyond what we thought possible and to become a distinguished person and martial artist.
So, the word ‘Gong Fu’ or as more commonly used, ‘Kung Fu’ means that through effort, hard work and time spent, it is possible to achieve mastery – in any field. Hence the word 'Fu' with all its individual components denotes that through the practice of Kung Fu, one can become a distinguished person in life.
Our Kung Fu Life curriculum has been designed with these details in mind and we hope it will help to guide you on your martial arts journey, growing, expanding, evolving, striving for your full potential and becoming an even better version of yourself, than you had ever imagined.
